AP Relates Financial Crisis to Roosevelt

Posted in Politics by Stacy McMahon on October 2, 2008

My favorite part of this early “fireside chat” (as FDR called his weekly radio speeches) is one I bet the AP reporter skipped right over (emphasis mine):

It is common sense to take a method and try it: If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.”

Is there a politician today who would admit frankly that their great and wonderful idea failed and maybe we should try something else – even the other guy’s idea? Hell, is there a regular person who would? David Brooks doesn’t think so (via Ann Althouse)
