Can I Show You Something In a Brown Shirt?
I’ve been saying all along that I like Barack Obama individually, but a disconcerting number of his supporters (who are not necessarily his fault) are some scary, KoolAid swilling thugs. First there’s the long-running undercurrent that if you don’t support him, it can only be some sort of racial issue. Then there’s the mysterious, seemingly well-timed flagging of blogs that oppose him. Now there’s this asshole:
Led by Tom Matzzie, a liberal political operative who has been involved with some prominent left-wing efforts in recent years, the newly formed nonprofit group, Accountable America, is planning to confront donors to conservative groups, hoping to create a chilling effect that will dry up contributions.
Something else I like to go on about explain to anyone who doesn’t mind listening for a few minutes, is how far US political labels have drifted from the actual meaning of the words. This is a fine example — there is absolutely nothing liberal about this “liberal political operative”’s plan to go around telling his political opponents, basically, “we know where you live!”. Memo to Mattzie: threatening people over politics is an extremely bad idea.
